Green Tea With Cardamom
Green tea and cardamom are both known thermogenics. If you can't find loose green tea leaves, open a green tea bag and use the leaves from inside. Look for dried cardamom pods in the spice aisle of your supermarket.
A green tea and cardamom blend can be made as follows:
Ingredients:
  • 2 tsp. green tea leaves
  • 3 to 4 cardamom pods
  • 6 oz. boiling water
  • Sugar or sugar substitute, to taste
Place the tea leaves and cardamom pods in a heat-proof container. Pour the boiling water over them, and steep the mixture for five minutes. Strain, add sugar or sugar substitute to taste, and serve hot. Drink two to three cups daily in addition to your diet and exercise program for the best results.
Yogi Weight Loss Tea
In India's northern state of Punjab, elaborate spice mixtures are often used to further enhance the medicinal properties of tea. When the Punjab-native Sikh religion arrived in America in the late 1960s with Yogi Bhajan, the spiced tea became fondly known as “yogi tea.” Also called masala tea, the recipe includes several thermogenic herbs including cardamom, cinnamon and ginger root. Originally used to warm and stimulate digestion, this formula may be the best tea for weight loss when combined with a healthy diet and regular exercise.
It can be made in the following way:
Ingredients:
  • 2 qt. water
  • ½ tsp. whole black peppercorns
  • 1 tbsp. cardamom seeds
  • 6 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 slices fresh ginger root
  • 1 ½ tsp. black tea
  • Honey or sugar to taste, optional
Bring the water to a boil in a large saucepan. Add the peppercorns, cardamom seeds, cinnamon sticks and ginger root. Reduce heat to the lowest setting, and simmer the mixture for about 30 minutes. Add the black tea, and let the mixture steep for no longer than 10 minutes. Strain, and add honey or sugar to taste, if desired. Drink after meals for the best results.
Lemon-Ginger Weight Loss Tea
This easy weight loss tea features green tea and ginger, both proven thermogenic substances, and a hint of lemon for extra flavor. This recipe yields approximately six servings, but you can refrigerate the leftovers for up to three days. Warm before serving or drink cold. For the best results, drink two to three cups daily accompanied by a healthy diet and exercise to lose weight safely.
Following is a recipe for lemon-ginger tea:
Ingredients:
  • 6 cups water
  • 4 tsp. sugar or equivalent sugar substitute
  • 1 1-inch piece of fresh ginger root, thinly sliced
  • 8 lemon peel strips (2 ½ x1-inch each)
  • 8 green tea bags, or 8 tsp. green tea leaves
  • Lemon slices for garnish, optional
Combine the water, sugar or sugar substitute, ginger and lemon peel strips in a large saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes. Remove the ginger slice and lemon peel strips; discard. Place the tea bags into a heat-proof container, and pour the simmering water mixture over them. Cover and steep for three to five minutes. Remove tea bags, and serve immediately with lemon slices for garnish, if desired.
Warnings
The above thermogenic weight loss teas are safe when used as directed. Beware of teas that contain herbal diuretics such as dandelion leaves. Although safe in moderation, they can cause serious health risks when taken too frequently. Thermogenic teas, on the other hand, can be consumed freely by most healthy adults. Always consult your doctor before taking herbs to aid weight loss if you have heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, or if you are pregnant or nursing.
