Nettle
Stinging nettle (Urtica dioica)
has a whole array of medicinal properties, and is also full of
nutrients. Traditionally, the leaves are used as an invigorating and
detoxifying spring tonic. Yes, you can eat stinging nettle! The sting is
deactivated by cooking, and you can use it in the same way you would
cook spinach, chard or other green leafy vegetables, or add it to soup.
You can also dry the leaves and use them as a tea or tincture. Dried
nettle does not sting.Nettle has anti-inflammatory and anti-histamine properties, and helps to alleviate symptoms of asthma, hayfever and bronchial congestion. Its anti-inflammatory activity is helpful for painful joints caused by arthritis, rheumatism and bursitis. Nettle also is a diuretic, and can be used to relieve water retention.
